This 40 foot all horse three row Spillman machine was "new" to Shelby in 1952. It ran at first under canvas, then under a wooden shelter with dirt floor next to the new G-16 Miniature Train. In the late seventies the carousel had continued to deteriorate (it was in "as is" condition when bought from a a carnival) and was in need of attention. This it got in 1985 when the NCA held its convention in North Carolina (Raleigh and Burlington). A gradual restoration project was begun, and in 1998, the NCA visited NC again, this time making a day trip to ride the newly restored Shelby "wooden rodeo". The Anne Dover Bailey Pavilion was built to house the restored/renovated treasure and protect it. An authentic band organ was acquired from a mechanical music enthusiast nearby. The miniature train was restored in 2002. Shelby hosted the NCA Tecnnical Conference in 2003. Click on one of the pictures above to view a larger image.
